alliantgroup Engineers Inspire Students at Houston PREP Career Day

Four alliantgroup engineers from the R&D and 179D departments recently participated in the “Houston PREP 30th Anniversary Celebration and Engineering/Career Day” at the University of Houston-Downtown.

The celebration was a part of the Houston Pre-Freshman Enrichment Program (PREP), which is a six-week intensive mathematics-based pre-college summer program that provides educational enrichment opportunities for middle and high school students. The program, which took place on July 10, is completely free and designed to encourage socially or economically disadvantaged students to become involved with STEM related careers. The College of Sciences and Technology at the University of Houston-Downtown has hosted this program since the summer of 1989.

The 30th Anniversary Celebration and Engineering/Career Day was held to celebrate the final day of the Houston PREP program. During the event, Andres Arroyo, Mary Louise Lapane and six other professionals in the engineering industry were part of an amazing panel discussion. The discussion involved middle and high school students asking questions about the panelists’ engineering journey and their current jobs. Rohit Narasimhan and Andrew Nlemadim were able to have one-on-one time with several students, where they talked with students about their own engineering careers and the aspirations of the students.

We are so proud to announce that everyone at Houston PREP and our own alliantgroup engineers truly enjoyed this opportunity to inspire younger generations to become involved with STEM fields. alliantgroup looks forward to continuing this partnership with the University of Houston-Downtown and creating new STEM students in the future!
