Another one of our amazing STEM scholarship winners is Patrick Stalborger! For as long as he can remember, Patrick has had a love for math and has always been running numbers in his head. At a young age, Patrick joined the Math Masters team in elementary school and won several competitions around Minnesota. In middle school, he was part of the Math Counts team and his team won third place at their regional competition.

One summer, his highschool advisor told him about college degrees in data science and theoretical mathematics. Patrick heard about all the things you could do in those fields and that truly sparked his interest. Since that day, he has known that he wants to pursue a career in STEM.

“I think that pursuing a degree in STEM is a great place to be right now because the way that STEM connects to other fields and any job you want to pursue. Technology is really the way of the future, and so I think that STEM is great way to branch into any job that you want.”

“I just think it’s really exciting to know that I have the power to make a difference or change something in the future that could impact generations to come.”

During high school, he really enjoyed taking math related classes such as accounting, probability and statistics and he always managed to excel in them. In addition to that, Patrick won other independent math competitions and most importantly, he won second place at the American Mathematics Competition!

“It is an honor to receive this award, because for all these years I have been so involved in STEM and been trying to pursue it. Now, I will be getting the help that I need to take my next step towards pursuing a major in STEM, it’s a big deal to get recognized for that.”
