alliantgroup had a blast sponsoring the Child Advocates Superhero Run on Saturday! The Superhero run is an annual 5K race and a 1K Fun Run for kids and families, that raises money to combat child abuse in the Houston area. alliantgroup was on hand with our Director of Corporate Citizenship, Casey Curry, and Wellness Director, Melanie Baxter, to support the super runners.

The Superhero Run was started in 2013 by Child Advocates and has since raised $600,000 to support their efforts to protect abused children. The organization trains volunteers to advocate on behalf of the thousands of children in our community that have had to be removed from their homes due to devastating abuse or neglect. Child Advocates estimates that there are 4,000 children in the Houston area that need their assistance with a child suffering abuse or neglect every 8 minutes.

The volunteers are court appointed and must represent the best interests of an assigned child or sibling group that is in foster care. Volunteers only represent one child or family group at a time to make sure no child falls through the cracks.

alliantgroup is dedicated to supporting our local community and we have a special spot in our hearts for children. Our Blue Heart Fund was created to further our community outreach efforts including several STEM education initiatives such as our STEM Scholarship which has provided hundreds of thousands of dollars to high school seniors who are pursuing a STEM career.

Sponsoring the Superhero Run not only supports our dedication to our community but also our dedication to wellness. alliantgroup has been recognized as the Healthiest Employer by Houston Business Journal for 2019 and we want to spread wellness around town. Not only were we one of the amazing sponsors for the race but we had over 80 employees participate.

The Superhero Run started and ended at CityCentre Saturday morning with a 5K and a 1K option. There were over 500 racers with 50 year old Mark Speets turning in the best time of 17:38.2. alliantgroup’s very own Patrick Shaia made the top 10 with a time of 21:05.9 and won the Male 20 to 24 group.

We also hosted a cape decorating party at alliantgroup Thursday before the event with over 40 people coming to decorate capes, play games and enjoy healthy foods and snacks from Salata and Cupcake Girl. This was only our second year sponsoring the Superhero Run but we had so much fun we’ll be coming back for years to come.
